Quiet Automatic Litter Box Review: Five Labels, Not One Decibel (2026)

Quiet automatic litter box shopping starts with the number each brand actually printed. Leo lists 30 dB. The other pages in this set lead with weight, litter, and waste-drawer rules.

Our verdict
4.3/5

This score is editorial — based on labels, recall history, and veterinary guidance, not a lab test. How we evaluated.

Match the label to the room

Leo’s Loo Too is the only box in this set whose current brand page prints 30 dB. PETKIT PuraMax 2 stays on the 2026 buying-guide row: 7.87 inch entry, 3.3 to 22 lb, 2.4 GHz, and no camera. Litter-Robot 4 is the QuietSift globe for cats from 3 to 25 lb on clumping clay. Neakasa M1 Plus is the open-top box with a 3.3 to 33 lb card and a Kitten Mode under 3.3 lb. PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin is the 6 liter drawer with a 12 inch step and a 25 lb line. A Purobot Max 3 page is a different model and stays off these buttons.

How we evaluated

This evaluation uses published product labels, guaranteed analyses, and recall records.

The score is an editorial label fit for a quiet automatic litter box. We read the Casa Leo, PETKIT, Whisker, Neakasa, and PetSafe pages named in the sources, plus Cornell and Ohio State husbandry pages. Each decibel line, weight band, and litter rule stays on the page that printed it.

Editorial evaluation from published labels / literature — not a lab test or boarding trial.

Editorial picks are not sold to brands. How we make money.

Five labels, five different quiet stories

A quiet automatic litter box search usually collapses five machines into one decibel chart. The current pages do not cooperate. Only Leo’s Loo Too prints 30 dB. PETKIT’s PuraMax 2 column says quiet and prints an entry height instead of a decibel number. Whisker describes QuietSift and a delay up to 30 minutes without a decibel number. Neakasa’s Plus card leads with an open top and a weight band. PetSafe describes a quiet sift into a 6 liter drawer and does not print a decibel number. Apartment noise also depends on cycle delay, a hollow drawer, and whether the cat will walk into a globe at all.

Leo’s Loo Too

Leo’s Loo Too

Best for: A bedroom or studio where the brand's own 30 dB line is the reason to look

Noise line
About 30 dB, also written as 30 dB, with a brand line that it is quieter than a library.
Safety
Radar before the cycle, four weight sensors, and an anti-pinch sensor.
Cat size
Drum sized for cats up to 20 lb (9 kg).
Litter
100% clay-clumping only. Other litters void the warranty and the 90-day trial.

Casa Leo’s Leo’s Loo Too page is the noise billboard in this quiet automatic litter box set. It says the motor purrs at about 30 dB, quieter than a library, and a later block says the box operates at 30 dB and is 50% quieter than the others. That 50% line is Casa Leo’s comparison, not a measurement from this page. The same page lists radar that detects motion before a cycle, four weight sensors that confirm exit, and an anti-pinch sensor that stops rotation. Odor copy names a UV-C light and an extra-large sealed waste drawer. The opened page does not print a drawer volume, so a 6 liter figure stays off this card.

The drum is described for cats up to 20 lb (9 kg). The app on iOS and Android can start a cycle, monitor waste, and send alerts. Voice hooks are Google Assistant and Alexa. Warranty copy on that page is one year. Litter is a hard rule: use only 100% clay-clumping litter. Other litters void the warranty and the 90-day trial. Casa Leo says any clay-clumping brand is fine and names Dr. Elsey’s Ultra as its recommendation. A cycle can still drop waste into the drawer after the motor rating is met. Place the box on a firm floor and use the delay the app allows if people sleep nearby.

Pros

  • Current page prints a decibel number
  • Radar, weight, and anti-pinch are listed together
  • Alexa and Google Assistant are on the page

Cons

  • The opened page does not print a waste-drawer liter size
  • Clay-clumping is a warranty condition, not a suggestion
PETKIT PuraMax 2

PETKIT PuraMax 2

Best for: A single-cat or two-cat home that wants the PuraMax 2 column, including the low 7.87 inch entry

Buying-guide row
Entry 7.87 in (200 mm). Weight 3.3 to 22 lb. Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz only. No camera. Manual waste packing.
Cleaning period
15 days per cat in PETKIT's single-cat table. The guide says actual use varies.
Odor and tracking
Triple odor control. Usage records and a 24-hour inactivity note where the model supports it. No image capture.
Leave off this row
Purobot Max 3 hero 35 dB, FAQ 45 dB, 8.03 in entry, 12 sensors, and model P9906.

PETKIT’s 2026 buying guide still has a PuraMax 2 column, and that column is the label for this button. Entrance height is 7.87 in (200 mm). Cat weight is 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) to 22 lb (10 kg). Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz, while the three newer models in the same table list 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The camera cell is blank. Multi-cat recognition and audio mode are blank. Odor control is listed as triple. Waste packing is manual. The max cleaning period is 15 days per cat, and the guide says those figures come from PETKIT’s own single-cat conditions and can change with the home. The guide calls PuraMax 2 the quiet, entry-level self-cleaning option for one or two cats, with usage records and a 24-hour inactivity notification where supported, and without image capture.

On 10 October 2026 the old path petkit.com/products/petkit-puramax-2 opened Purobot Max 3, model P9906. That page is a different box. Its hero says whisper-quiet 35 dB, and its FAQ says 45 dB. Specs on that page list an 8.03 in entry, 12 sensors, a 76 L cylinder, and a 7 L waste bin, plus a 6-month age line. Those numbers stay on Max 3. They do not move onto this PuraMax 2 card, and this page does not invent a decibel rating the buying-guide column left blank. ShieldBase and N50 language on older PuraMax copy is not reprinted in that 2026 column, so it stays off this card too.

Pros

  • The 2026 guide still names PuraMax 2
  • Entry height and weight are printed
  • 2.4 GHz is explicit

Cons

  • The old product path opened Purobot Max 3 on this check
  • That guide table does not print a PuraMax 2 decibel number
Litter-Robot 4

Litter-Robot 4

Best for: Homes that already want the Whisker app and a clumping-clay globe

Noise
QuietSift. Delay starts after exit and can extend to 30 minutes. No decibel number on the page opened.
Cats
3 to 25 lb. Automatic mode from 3 lb. Under 3 lb, use supervised semi-automatic cycles.
Size
Entry 15.75 by 15.75 in. Interior height 16.5 in. Empty weight 24 lb. Footprint 22 by 27 in. Power 15 V DC.
Litter
Clumping clay is the recommendation. Wood pellets, paper, and non-clumping litters do not work. White crystal litter is not recommended.

Whisker’s Litter-Robot 4 page describes QuietSift as sifting that keeps the cleaning cycle quieter, and it says the cycle waits until minutes after the cat leaves. The delay can extend to 30 minutes. The page does not print a decibel number, so a mid-30s chart stays off this card. One unit is marketed for up to four cats. Cats from 3 to 25 lb fit the stated range, with an entry of 15.75 by 15.75 in and an interior height of 16.5 in. Empty weight is 24 lb, the footprint is 22 by 27 in, and power is 15 V DC. The pack list includes a fence, a step, a carbon filter, and five waste-drawer liners. Kittens under 3 lb stay on semi-automatic use: power off until the kitten has left, wait about 7 minutes, then run one cycle and power off again.

The waste drawer is sealed and uses a carbon filter. Whisker says some homes empty it as seldom as every 8 days, and it suggests replacing the carbon filter every 2 to 4 weeks. OdorTrap packs are optional. The free Whisker view is a 7-day look at visits and weights. Whisker+ is a separate membership for a longer history, including duration tracking from September 2025. Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz, IPv4 or IPv6, and the 5 GHz band is not supported. Clumping clay is the litter Whisker recommends. Some silica gel beads can pass the screen, but translucent or white crystal litter can throw off the litter-level and drawer-full readings and is not recommended. Plant-based litters typically do not sift correctly. Non-clumping litter, newspaper litter, and wood pellet litter do not work. SmartScale weight is most accurate on a firm surface. Carpet thicker than 3 mm can take the Carpet Tray; the tray is for weight accuracy, and the robot can run without it. The laser line is a Class 1 laser product. A full feature tour lives on the Litter-Robot 4 review. This page only places that globe next to the other boxes in the set.

Pros

  • Weight floor and ceiling are printed
  • Cycle delay is adjustable to 30 minutes
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi requirement is explicit

Cons

  • The Whisker page does not print a decibel number
  • SmartScale weight readings want a firm floor
Neakasa M1 Plus

Neakasa M1 Plus

Best for: Cats that will not enter a closed globe, inside the printed weight band

Plus product card
6-array rotary sensors. Cats 3.3 to 33 lb, up to 3 cats. Kitten Mode under 3.3 lb. 2.4 GHz app. Pull and Wrap waste.
Capacity pages
Collection table: 11.23 L waste bin, 7.17 L litter, 13.86 in entry. A glance post rounds the bin to 11.2 L.
Noise
The Plus card does not print a decibel number. The Plus versus Lite post prints about 50 dB for the shared engine.
Litter
FAQ: fast-clumping bentonite or mineral granules, up to 3 mm across and 10 mm long. Tofu is outside that FAQ.

The Neakasa M1 Plus product card describes an open-top self-cleaning box with 6-array rotary sensors, a brush strip, and a composite sealing ring with leakage cut to under 5%. The card supports cats from 3.3 to 33 lb and up to 3 cats, with Kitten Mode for cats under 3.3 lb. The app is 2.4 GHz only. Pull and Wrap seals the waste bag. The box list is the main unit, four support legs, one litter mat, and two refill-bag rolls. That card does not print a decibel number or a liter capacity.

Neakasa’s collection table for M1 Plus lists an 11.23 L waste bin, 7.17 L of litter, a 13.86 in entry, and a weight span from about 2.2 lb to about 33 lb. A Plus-versus-Lite glance post says 11.2 L waste and 7.17 L litter, entry 13.86 in, dimensions 23.3 by 20.7 by 20.2 in, and about 50 dB, and it puts the weight span at 2.2 to 33 lb. Use 11.23 L when you are reading the collection table, and do not average it with 11.2 L. The separate M1 product page prints operation noise at or below 50 dB and a Kitten Mode under 2.2 lb. Those two lines belong to the page that printed them. The litter FAQ says the grate passes particles up to 3 mm in diameter and 10 mm long, recommends fast-clumping bentonite or mineral granules, and says tofu litter and tofu mixes are not supported. A later Neakasa blog discusses tofu in the M1 grate. Follow the FAQ on the box you bought, and keep a traditional pan while a kitten is under the mode printed on that unit. Open tops move odor differently than a sealed globe. Empty the bin on a short schedule in warm weather. Neakasa’s maintenance note for the M1 family says about every 7 to 10 days for one cat, and every 7 days in hot weather.

Pros

  • Open top is the design on the product card
  • Kitten Mode is named on the Plus card
  • Waste and litter volumes are on the collection table

Cons

  • Weight floors differ by Neakasa page
  • The Plus card itself has no decibel number
PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin

PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin

Best for: A lower step and a brand that also allows non-clumping litter in the feature list

Drawer
6 liter sealed drawer, described as holding up to 2 weeks of clumps.
Cats
12 in from the ground. Cats up to 25 lb.
App
Pet Companion app for weight and usage. Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz.
Litter
Feature bullets say any litter, with premium clumping for best results. The specification table says clumping litter.

PetSafe’s ScoopFree SmartSpin page says the unit senses a safe exit and sifts waste into a sealed drawer. The odor line is a brand comparison: 4 times the odor control of traditional litter boxes, using the sealed drawer and an integrated deodorizer. The pack includes a power adaptor, waste-bin liners, and two deodorizer packs. The drawer is 6 liters and is described as holding up to two weeks of clumps. The step is 12 in from the ground, for cats up to 25 lb. The Pet Companion app reports weight and usage over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The page does not print a decibel number. Refill litter and replace the liner every couple of weeks, then wipe the smooth interior when you want a deeper clean.

Read the litter lines together. The feature list says the box is compatible with any litter and recommends premium clumping litter for best results. The specification table on the same page lists compatible litter as clumping litter. Keep both sentences. ScoopFree OpenSky is a different hoodless box with an 8.5 L drawer. The crystal ScoopFree uses disposable crystal trays and a different odor multiple. Neither volume nor that crystal multiple belongs on the SmartSpin card. A home that still keeps a scooped pan can pair it with a sealed pail from the Litter Champ and Litter Genie comparison.

Pros

  • Drawer volume is printed
  • Step height and weight cap are printed
  • The litter wording conflict is on one brand page

Cons

  • No decibel number on the PetSafe page
  • OpenSky and Crystal boxes are different products

Placement when the only spot is a small home

Whisker’s SmartScale wants a firm floor, and carpet thicker than 3 mm is the case for the Carpet Tray. PETKIT’s redirected Max 3 reviews mention a hard surface, but that note is not a PuraMax 2 spec. Keep the robot level, keep a litter mat from blocking the weight sensors, and point the entrance away from the seat where people jump at the first spin. A closet holds odor and sound. If the bedroom is the only room, use the longest delay the app offers and empty the drawer before clumps fall into an empty bin. For odor backup pans, see the odor-control litter box guide.

What we like

  • Leo is the only box here with a printed 30 dB line
  • Weight floors stay on the page that printed them
  • Purobot Max 3 numbers stay off the PuraMax 2 card
  • Litter rules are brand-specific, including Leo's warranty condition

What we don't

  • Four of the five pages do not print a decibel number
  • Neakasa's weight floor is 3.3 lb on the Plus card and about 2.2 lb on the collection table
  • SmartSpin's feature list and specification table disagree on litter
  • A full drawer can still be loud when a clump lands

Which label matches the constraint

Choose Leo’s Loo Too when the published 30 dB line is the constraint and the cat is inside the 20 lb drum note, on clay-clumping litter. Choose the PuraMax 2 buying-guide row when you want the 7.87 in entry and the 3.3 to 22 lb band, and you will not paste Max 3’s decibel lines onto it. Choose Litter-Robot 4 when you want QuietSift, a 30-minute delay, and the 3 to 25 lb clay-clumping globe. Choose Neakasa M1 Plus when an open top matters more than a sealed drum, and match Kitten Mode to the Plus card. Choose SmartSpin when the 12 in step, the 6 liter drawer, and the 25 lb line are the fit, and you have read both litter sentences on PetSafe’s page.

Quiet automatic litter box FAQ

Which box in this set prints a 30 dB motor line?

Leo’s Loo Too. Casa Leo’s page says about 30 dB, also written as 30 dB, and says the motor is quieter than a library. The same page adds a brand claim of 50% quieter than the others. PETKIT’s PuraMax 2 column, Whisker’s Litter-Robot 4 page, Neakasa’s Plus card, and PetSafe’s SmartSpin page do not print 30 dB.

Why is Purobot Max 3 missing from the buttons?

The old PuraMax 2 product path opened Purobot Max 3, model P9906, on this check. Max 3’s hero says 35 dB and its FAQ says 45 dB. Its entry is 8.03 in, with 12 sensors and a 7 L bin. The PuraMax 2 buying-guide row is a 7.87 in entry, 3.3 to 22 lb, 2.4 GHz, no camera, and manual waste packing. This button stays on that row.

Can every kitten use these boxes in automatic mode?

No. Litter-Robot 4 automatic mode starts at 3 lb, with supervised cycles under that weight. Neakasa’s Plus card puts Kitten Mode under 3.3 lb, while another Neakasa table starts near 2.2 lb. Leo’s page caps the drum at 20 lb and does not print a kitten floor. SmartSpin prints a 25 lb ceiling and a 12 in step, not a kitten floor. PuraMax 2’s guide row starts at 3.3 lb.

What litter does each globe allow?

Leo requires 100% clay-clumping litter, and other litters void the warranty and the 90-day trial. Litter-Robot 4 is built for clumping clay. Wood pellets, paper, and non-clumping litter do not work, and white crystal litter is not recommended. Neakasa’s FAQ wants fast-clumping bentonite or mineral granules up to 3 mm by 10 mm and excludes tofu. SmartSpin’s bullets say any litter, with premium clumping preferred, while its specification table says clumping litter.

Does a lower decibel line mean a silent bedroom?

A printed motor rating is a near-unit figure from the brand. Waste landing in the drawer, an empty bin, and a hard floor still change the sound. Litter-Robot 4 lets you extend the delay to 30 minutes. Empty drawers before they ring, and keep the unit off a shared bedroom wall when the only spot is a sleeping room.

How many cats does one automatic box cover?

Litter-Robot 4’s marketing says one unit for up to four cats inside the 3 to 25 lb range. Neakasa’s Plus card says up to three cats. PETKIT’s guide positions PuraMax 2 for one or two cats. SmartSpin says single or multi-cat households and does not print a headcount. Cornell and Ohio State still want enough clean boxes in quiet places. A multi-cat litter comparison is separate from the hardware: multi-cat litter versus regular litter.
