A sifting globe with litter rules, not a box you never touch

Litter-Robot 4 review, on this page, covers three listings already linked. The white robot is the globe. The black listing adds a step and a fence in its title. The 25-pack is the drawer liner. Whisker prints a 22 by 27 inch footprint, 29.5 inch height, 15.75 inch entry, 24 lb empty weight, and 15 volt DC power. The cat range on the page is 3 to 25 lb, with automatic mode from about 3 lb, and marketing for up to four cats. Clumping clay is the litter the FAQ asks for. White or translucent crystals can confuse the drawer-full reading. The free app is 2.4 GHz only. Whisker’s “as low as $699” line and the 90-day in-home trial are direct-sale sentences. Amazon returns follow Amazon.

How we evaluated

This evaluation uses published product labels, guaranteed analyses, and recall records.

We read the current Whisker Litter-Robot 4 page, the waste-drawer liner page, and the titles of the three listings already linked. The score is an editorial label fit. Nobody ran the globe, and nobody measured odor in a room.

What this Litter-Robot 4 review is comparing

Litter-Robot 4 review searches often promise that you never scoop and that odor is gone. The machine sifts hard clumps into a sealed drawer. You still empty that drawer, you still buy bags, and a cat who will not enter does not become a cat who will. This page stays on the three listings already linked.

  • White globe. The robot. Confirm accessories in the carton.
  • Black, with step and fence in the title. Same family. The step is named.
  • 25 liner pack. The bag for the drawer, not a second robot.

Litter
Clumping clay is the FAQ's first choice. The listing title says any clumping litter.

The white Litter-Robot 4 is the globe this review is about. The listing title is Whisker Litter-Robot 4, White. Its included-components line says Litter-Robot 4, and the model number on that listing is LR4-0101-00-US. Whisker’s product page prints height 29.5 inches, footprint 22 by 27 inches, entryway 15.75 by 15.75 inches, empty weight 24 lb, and power 15 volt DC. The same page says the unit is designed for cats 3 to 25 lb, that the interior height in the large-cat answer is 16.5 inches, and that it is suitable for up to four cats. A retailer dimension field that says 24 by 24 by 31 inches does not match that table. Measure the room with Whisker’s 22 by 27 inch footprint and 29.5 inch height.

The page’s included graphic shows the robot, a quick-start guide, a power supply, a fence, waste-drawer liners, and a carbon filter. It does not, in that graphic, show a step. The black listing is the one whose title names a step. Confirm the carton. Setup copy says the robot arrives assembled: add litter and plug it in. QuietSift is the brand’s name for the quieter cycle, and the delay after the cat leaves can be set from 3 minutes to 30 minutes. That is a convenience setting, not a claim that every cat will stay calm.

Pros

  • The size, weight range, and Wi-Fi band are printed
  • Waste is supposed to leave the bed and sit in a sealed drawer

Cons

  • You still empty the drawer and replace liners
  • The listing title is looser about litter than the FAQ
Litter-Robot 4 with Step and Fence, Black

Litter-Robot 4 with Step and Fence, Black

Litter-Robot 4 Black with Step
Same family
Use Whisker's size table, not a second footprint
Clearance

Warranty line
1-year WhiskerCare on the listing. The direct page also offers a longer plan.

The black listing is Whisker Litter-Robot 4 with Step and Fence, Black. The model number on that listing is LR4-0301-00-CA, and the included-components line says Litter-Robot 4 Black with Step. Treat it as the same globe family with the step named on the title. Do not invent a different height or a different cat-weight range for the color. The listing also says the unit must not be pushed against a wall or into a corner. Leave clearance so the globe can turn.

Whisker’s safety paragraph describes lasers, weight sensors, and anti-obstruction technology, and it says the cycle runs when the globe is clear. That is the current page’s wording. A fence can cut down on litter walking out of the entry. It does not make a cat who hates a closed space walk in. If the carton that arrives does not match the title, use the seller’s return window rather than assuming a step is hiding in the base.

Pros

  • The step is in the listing title, so you are not guessing from a color name
  • The wall-clearance line is printed on that listing

Cons

  • A step does not change the litter rules or the Wi-Fi band
  • Color is not a reason to retire every other box
Whisker Waste Drawer Liners, 25 pack

Whisker Waste Drawer Liners, 25 pack

Best for: An owner who already has a Litter-Robot and wants the custom-fit liner

Count
25 liners
Whisker size
23.5 by 29 inches. 9 to 11 gallons usable, on the liner page.
Whisker price
$25 on the liner page. That is not an Amazon sale price.
LR4 install
The listing says wrap the edges over the waste-drawer rim
Earlier robots
The same listing says roll the edges into the four tabs
Change
Whenever you empty the drawer

The liner pack is the consumable. Whisker’s liner page lists a 25-count, 23.5 by 29 inches, with 9 to 11 gallons of usable capacity, and it advertises the pack at $25. The material line on that page is mostly polyethylene, with a small biodegradable additive. That is not permission to compost feces or to flush the bag. The same listing says the earlier robot uses four tabs. Follow the robot you own.

Whisker says to replace the liner whenever you empty the drawer. The liner FAQ calls twice a week typical for two average cats, and once a week fine for one cat. The robot page separately says a one-cat home may go as long as 8 days. Those are both brand sentences. They are not a promise that your drawer will last eight days, and they are not a reason to leave a full bag in a warm room. The app can flag a full drawer. You still remove the bag.

Pros

  • The fit and the gallon line are printed
  • The install step is different for the 4 than for the earlier robot

Cons

  • A liner does not extend the 8-day marketing line
  • You still take the bag out. Sealed is not infinite.

Floor space, entry, and the cat who has to fit

Plan on 22 by 27 inches of floor and 29.5 inches of height, plus room for the globe to turn. Empty weight is 24 lb, so it is movable, and it is not a tray you slide under a bookshelf. The entry is 15.75 by 15.75 inches. The large-cat answer adds 16.5 inches of interior height and repeats the 3 to 25 lb range. A cat heavier than 25 lb is outside that sentence. A kitten under 3 lb is outside automatic mode.

SmartScale weight readings are most accurate on a firm floor. On carpet 3 mm or thicker, or on an uneven floor, Whisker sells an optional carpet tray. The tray is not required for the globe to cycle. It is there so the scale is less wrong. If the reason you want the robot is weight tracking, put it on a hard surface or budget the tray. If the reason is sifting, the cycle still runs.

The litter rules are the whole product

Whisker’s FAQ says the best litter is clumping clay, a standard-weight clay rather than a featherweight that falls apart. Some silica beads that pass the screen may work. Translucent or white crystal litter can affect the litter-level reading and the drawer-full indicator on this model, and Whisker does not recommend it. Plant-based litter typically does not sift. The do-not-use list is strictly absorbent non-clumping litter, loose-clumping litter, newspaper, and wood pellets.

The white Amazon title says the robot works with any clumping litter. That sentence is wider than the FAQ. A clump that smears, or a pellet that will not fall through the screen, is how these globes jam. If you are still choosing a substrate, the pellet versus clumping page and the clumping versus crystals page separate those chores. Pellets and a full crystal dump are different jobs from this screen.

Odor control means a drawer you empty

Whisker says waste is removed promptly, that typical odors are significantly reduced, and that the drawer is sealed and carbon-filtered. Optional OdorTrap packs are a separate product. The page does not call the globe odor-proof. The change line for the carbon filter and the OdorTrap packs is every 2 to 4 weeks, and the liner changes when the drawer is emptied. A one-cat “up to 8 days” line is the brand’s long interval, not a schedule for a four-cat home that all use the same globe.

A covered box can hold smell against the cat. This globe’s pitch is that clumps leave the bed. Urine on the liner, a drawer left full, or a litter the screen cannot separate will still smell. Open boxes and a scoop pail are a different chore. See the litter boxes for odor control page and the Litter Champ versus Litter Genie comparison if you are still scooping by hand.

The app is a 2.4 GHz log, not a diagnosis

The free Whisker app monitors visits and tracks weights. On Litter-Robot 4 the free look-back is 7 days of visits and individual cat weights. Whisker+ is optional and adds a daily recap, time-of-day notes, duration trends, and history up to two years. Duration tracking on that plan was added in September 2025, with no history from before that month. The app also reports device status. None of that is a urinalysis.

Wi-Fi is the hard limit people skip. The robot needs 2.4 GHz and IPv4 or IPv6. A 5 GHz-only network will not onboard it. You can still run cycles from the unit. You cannot pretend the phone chart exists without that band. A sudden stop in urine, straining, or blood is a clinic visit whether the chart looks calm or not.

Acclimation is a footnote, and kittens have a weight floor

Whisker says over 95 percent of cats acclimate. The footnote says the figure comes from stated reasons for customer returns of Litter-Robot 4 and 3 over a one-year period. Cats who never tried the box, and cats who were returned for a reason the owner did not state, are outside that sentence. The transition steps on the page are ordinary: put the globe where the old box was, keep both nearby for a while, mix a cup of used litter into the clean litter, and leave the unit off until the cat has tried it. Most cats, the page says, start within a few days to a week. That is the brand’s sentence.

Automatic mode starts at about 3 lb because the weight sensor has to see the cat. Under that weight, Whisker tells you to keep the power off, wait about 7 minutes after the kitten leaves, turn the unit on for one clean cycle, and turn it off again. Repeat that until the kitten trips the sensor on purpose. An unattended cycle around a kitten who is too light is the failure mode the semi-automatic note is written to avoid.

This robot fits when

  • Size, power, cat weight, Wi-Fi band, and litter rules are on the current page
  • The black listing names the step instead of leaving it to a color photo
  • The liner pack has its own size, capacity, and install step

Skip it when

  • You wanted a box that never needs a bag change
  • The cat will not walk into a globe
  • You need to watch urine clumps for a medical reason

Whisker direct and Amazon are different return rules

Whisker advertises the robot at as low as $699. That is the brand’s floor, not a price we checked out of a cart, and it is not a promise that Amazon shows the same number tomorrow. The liner page advertises the 25-pack at $25. The direct robot page includes a 90-day in-home trial, with return shipping paid by the buyer, and one year of WhiskerCare, with a longer plan available. The same answer says a robot bought somewhere else follows that seller’s return policy. Amazon is that somewhere else. Do not buy on Amazon and then quote Whisker’s 90 days.

A newer robot is sold as its own product. This page does not move that model’s features onto the 4. If you need a step, the black listing already names one. If you need bags, buy the liner pack when the drawer cycle starts, not after the first full weekend. Cats Luv Us can keep a cat on the clumping litter the globe already uses. Bring that litter, and keep an open box in the plan if the cat has never walked into a globe.

Who should buy which listing

  • You want the globe and will match the carton to the photo: the white robot.
  • You want the step written on the title: the black listing. Leave clearance from the walls.
  • You already own the robot: the 25-pack. Wrap the liner over the rim on the 4.
  • You need to see every clump: neither robot. Use an open box you can watch.
  • Your network is 5 GHz only: the globe may still sift. The app will not connect.

Bottom line

Litter-Robot 4 review, for the three listings already here, is a self-cleaning globe that sifts hard clumps into a sealed carbon-filtered drawer. Whisker prints a 22 by 27 inch footprint, 29.5 inch height, 15.75 inch entry, 24 lb empty weight, 15 volt DC, a 3 to 25 lb cat range, up to four cats, and a 2.4 GHz-only app. Clumping clay is the litter it asks for. White or translucent crystals can confuse the drawer-full sensor. The as-low-as $699 line and the 90-day in-home trial are Whisker’s direct-sale sentences. The 95 percent acclimation line is a return-reason footnote, not a promise that every cat will use it. You still empty the drawer.

Litter-Robot 4 review

What is the Litter-Robot 4 review of the white listing actually buying?

The white globe. Whisker prints 22 by 27 inches of floor, 29.5 inches of height, a 15.75 inch entry, 24 lb empty, and 15 volt DC. The listing’s included-components line says Litter-Robot 4. A step is named on the black listing, not on the white title. Check the carton.

What litter does Litter-Robot 4 ask for?

Clumping clay is the FAQ’s first choice. Some crystal beads that pass the screen may work. Translucent or white crystals are not recommended because they can throw off the litter-level and drawer-full readings. Plant litter usually fails the screen. Strictly absorbent non-clumping litter, loose-clumping litter, newspaper, and wood pellets are out. The white listing title says any clumping litter. Read the FAQ before you believe the title.

Does the app work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. Whisker says Litter-Robot 4 needs a 2.4 GHz signal and IPv4 or IPv6. The 5 GHz band is not supported. The robot can still cycle without the app. The phone features cannot.

Can a kitten use automatic mode?

Whisker says a kitten of at least 3 lb can use automatic mode. Under 3 lb, the brand’s semi-automatic method is to leave the unit off, wait about 7 minutes after use, power it on for one cycle, then power it off again, until the kitten reliably trips the weight sensor. Do not leave a tiny kitten in an unattended automatic cycle.

How often do you empty the drawer?

When it is full. The liner page calls once a week reasonable for one average cat and twice a week typical for two. The robot page says a one-cat home may reach 8 days. Odor, heat, and how many cats actually use the globe decide it. The carbon filter and optional OdorTrap packs are on a 2 to 4 week brand interval.

Is the 90-day trial the Amazon return policy?

No. The 90-day in-home trial is Whisker’s direct-sale sentence, and the buyer pays return shipping. A purchase on Amazon follows Amazon’s window. One year of WhiskerCare is the warranty line on the robot page. A longer plan is optional, or included with some bundles.

Will every cat use it?

No. Whisker says over 95 percent of cats acclimate, and the footnote says that figure is based on stated reasons for returns of Litter-Robot 4 and 3 over one year. It is not a promise about the cat in front of you. Keep the old box nearby, mix in a cup of used litter, and leave the unit off until the cat has tried it.

Is the weight chart a medical monitor?

No. The free app shows a 7-day look at visits and individual weights. Whisker+ adds a longer history, and duration tracking on that plan starts in September 2025 with no earlier history. Straining, blood in the urine, or a cat that stops passing urine needs a clinic. The app is not that visit.
