Irvine is large, so drive time depends on your village. From the center of the city our routing check took Alton Parkway to the I-405 south, which merges into the I-5 at the El Toro Y, and then Crown Valley Parkway — about 15 miles and 21 minutes with open roads. Southern villages like Portola Springs, Orchard Hills and Quail Hill are often a little quicker; Northwood and Woodbridge can take longer at rush hour.
Why drive? Because we board cats only, in private suites, and have done since 1993. For owners of nervous cats, that difference is worth a short trip.
If you work near the Irvine Spectrum or UCI, dropping off on the way to or from work is often the simplest plan. Heading out of John Wayne Airport (SNA)? The airport sits on Irvine's western edge, so board with us first and then backtrack up the I-405.
Many Irvine cats live in apartments and have little exposure to other animals. A calm building with no dogs, daily play time in a large pen and a window full of birds helps them adjust quickly.
From Turtle Rock and University Park, the I-405 south is closest. From Woodbridge and Northwood, the I-5 south may be more direct, especially if the I-405 is congested near the Spectrum. From Portola Springs, Orchard Hills and the Great Park neighborhoods, the SR-133 or SR-241 can connect you to the I-5 or SR-73, though times vary by traffic and tolls. Every route ends at Crown Valley Parkway and Forbes Road, where parking is available.
