• Deductible options: Annual deductibles vs. per-incident deductibles. Annual deductibles are generally better value for cats with chronic conditions.
• Reimbursement percentage: Most plans offer 70%, 80%, or 90% reimbursement. Higher percentages mean higher premiums but lower out-of-pocket costs.
• Coverage limits: Look for plans with unlimited annual limits or at least $10,000+ in annual coverage.
• Pre-existing conditions: Understand what counts as pre-existing. Enroll your cat while young for the best coverage.
• Waiting periods: Most plans have waiting periods of 14 days for illness and 2 days for accidents.
• Age restrictions: Some insurers do not cover cats over a certain age. Check before enrolling.
